Stone Skimmer – the virtual twist to the art of stone skimming
If you’ve spent your childhood at the
countryside or on the beach, you’d be familiar with stone skimming. Stone
skimming is the art of throwing stones in the water, where it skims the surface
of the water and bounces on the surface a couple of times before finally
sinking into its depths. It was a popular pastime, and there were people who
aced at it. Back in my place, there was this person who could make the stone
skim around 10 times. And the world record for that was a whopping 34 times!
So, it was really thrilling to know that
there’s a mobile game called stone skimmer that lets you go skimming anytime
and anywhere! That’s right!! For skimming fans like me, this is the best game
to have. When I found out that App111interactive was coming up with a mobilegame for skimmers, I was excited and here’s all the inside information to -
Stone Skimmer.
The concept: The creator Shane Monaghan
came up with this concept as he too shared an interest in the art of skimming
and wanted to share the same delight and experience of playing the game onto
the mobile platform. So his team came up with this exciting game which will be
available on App Stores.
The Game: The game is set on a beach with the waves
lapping up on the sand, excellent sound score with the birds chirping, the wind
blowing and the children playing. The skimmer gets to choose between 6 stone
characters as he/she scales up the various levels of the game.
The game screen begins with a 3D
view of the horizon, with the control buttons, skim counter, coins etc on the
display. The user has to drag back the stone with the finger and then let it go
to catapult the stone at the right angle. The angle of the trajectory can be
determined by tilting the phone at the right angle. Once the stone has been
aimed right, and the angle perfect, the stone will skim the water.
The user has to continually swipe
the stone to keep the stone going. Every time the stone comes in contact with
water, the phone will vibrate and give a splashing sound to make it realistic.
As the stone loses its power, the vibrations would become more frequents as it
would come in contact with the water much faster. The twist to the game is that the player would
have to hit as many targets as possible before their stone stops skimming.
Attractive sound scores and graphics for targets like birds, wooden planks,
boats, swimmers, dolphins, fish etc. make the game truly enjoyable.
The Skill: The game would require skills similar to
actual stone skimming or beach skimming.
The player should be able to tilt the phone in the right angle at the
right moment and gear up the stone with all the power possible to get it to
skim for long distances. At the same time, he/she should also be able swipe the
stone repeatedly to keep it charged, and direct it at as many targets as
possible.
